Bully Breed Yeast Infections
Moist areas on a dog's skin, particularly in breeds with skin folds, are prone to yeast infections. These infections can occur anywhere, including the stomach region. Symptoms include redness, inflammation, itchiness, oiliness, scaliness, and even hair loss.
Prevention and diligence is key to keeping your fur baby healthy, itch, and smell-free.
Our mush faces are not immune to these nasty infections :(
"Canine yeast infections can manifest anywhere on a dog's skin, including the stomach region. These infections are prevalent in moist areas, particularly in breeds with skin folds, such as "wrinkly" dogs. The affected skin may appear red, inflamed, itchy, oily, or scaly, and hair loss may also occur."
Here at Blissful Bully we always want to take a proactive approach in any type of prevention. It's best to take action at the first signs of trouble.

Typical Sites for Bulldog Infections:
• Skin folds and facial wrinkles (most common area for bulldogs!)
• Tail pockets
• Tail folds
• Underarm regions
• Paws
Any location with a skin crease can be susceptible to infection since these areas are warm and moist, trapping moisture in the crease and providing an ideal environment for bacteria and yeast to thrive. Although these microorganisms exist on the skin everywhere else, skin folds give them an opportunity to flourish.
Typical Symptoms of Infections in Bulldog Wrinkles:
The initial indicator that your bulldog may be developing an infection is redness, also known as dermatitis or inflamed skin. This is frequently accompanied by dry, scaly skin, and you may need to inspect the creases since these early signs may not be apparent otherwise.
Foul Odor:
Infections, particularly in skin folds, may be accompanied by unpleasant odors. If your bulldog's face or body emits an unusual scent, it's a significant indication that there may be an issue. However, make sure that you are not detecting their breath.
**Tail Pockets!!!!
We've experienced the most significant problem with our bulldogs in the tail pocket area. This area can spiral out of control and become a life-altering issue. Our smart and sassy bulldog, Rosie, had this problem. Her tail pocket was so severe that it bled every day when she was moderately active. At this point, I highly recommend taking your furry companion to a vet and discussing options. A veterinarian who specializes in bulldogs should be able to perform "tail socket surgery" (tail amputation), which will significantly improve your pet's quality of life. In our case, Rosie has experienced a 1000x improvement in her quality of life, and the surgery cost us $900.00 in Michigan. We believe it was well worth it, and you can't even tell that anything was done to her.
